Iron Maiden: Flight 666

The long holiday provided me ample time to catch-up on some movies that needs to be finished watching. And one of these is the concert documentary film of heavy metal icon Iron Maiden, where the concert was filmed on the band's first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" from February-March of 2008.

I have known the Maidens since the mid-80's but I was induced into new wave music, that is why I failed to embrace them. Though belatedly as it was, the album "Fear Of The Dark" converted me to finally appreciate their music.Well, also because of my shifting in varied genre in music - with the decline of new wave and glam rock, and spawning of grunge music - heavy metal is it! So I had to revisit the past great albums of this band. Ditto for Megadeth and Metallica to name some. But Iron Maiden is my top heavy metal band - music/lyrics (stop saying that the band is Satanic, c'mon guys!!!) and showmanship, they are just the best.

Going back to this landmark concert, the almost two hours docu concert will take you to Mumbai, Australia (Melbourne and Sydney), Tokyo, Los Angeles, Mexico (two cities), Costa Rica, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Puerto Rico, New Jersey, and finally to Toronto. And in between, an impressive behind-the-scene exploits of the band and crew as they travel and hop from one city to another, and finally covering 45 days and 45 thousand miles of travel around the world aboard "Ed Force One", a Boeing 757. The grueling schedule reveals how the idea for this unforgetable tour actually came about and the complexity in the planning and execution. Also, captured here are some, if not, the most spectacular scenes the band have ever done while touring. And an interesting side dish of this opus are the band's activities when not playing - doing tennis, golf, and soccer, plus unguarded moments - really revealing!!!

If you're a Maiden fan, this one is for you. If not yet Maidenized, this is your time to board Flight 666!!!
Here's a sample song from the OST: Can I Play With Madness
